Can't get message rules to work???

I have set up some email rules in WLM (I use WLM with my gmail POP account).
I set up some rules to move messages into subfloders and they all worked
fine. Then I tried to set up some rules to "highlight" messages from
specific senders in colors. Tried everything and could never get them to
work. My last try looks like this:
'Apply this rule after the message arrives'
'kWhere the From line contains 'skenney' or 'sken1@*******.net'
'Highlight it with Fuchsia'
'and Stop processing more rules'

Obviously the ' at the ends of each line are not in the rule and the &******
is replaced with the real email address. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

PS: I have made the trip from Outlook to Thunderbird to WLM.

I have had an ongoing problem with Message Rules, see my Thread "Creating
Message Rules"
Try doing the rule with out the color, I am starting to wonder if the "Stop
processing more rules' is causing it?? never did that before in OE and they
always worked.
Why did you give up Outlook? got to be better than WLM?

Re: 'skenney' or 'sken1@*******.net' Only put in the correct e-mail
address. You do not need the Display Name.

Make sure your Move To Folder rules are moved above all others, (except
Delete It From Server), in the rules list. If you want to have a message
moved and highlighted, (can't think of a reason why), have Move and
Highlight in the same rule.

Apply this rule to currently downloaded messages
Where the From line contains "the exact name shown in the From field"
Highlight it with "your choice of color"
and Stop processing more rules

The above is an example, omit any quotes shown above but heed the form suggested

Do not use the email address or the name in your Contacts(if different than the From field)

In most cases you can find the name in the message properties. Look for From:

e.g. From: Joseph <>

Use Joseph for the rule.

Apply the rule manually by accessing Tools/Message rules, clicking Apply Now, selecting a rule to be applied, click Browse to
select the folder, then click Apply Now.

Future received messages will follow the rule. Ensure the rule is has the proper precedent when among other rules.

A guess - He wants it highlighted / colorized so he can find it once it is
moved (since they are no longer "bolded") . . . . . . as S. G. noted in his
12-14-2009 post. (I think they're in cahoots !!)

You and Bruce need to work out your differences!

Read messages never remained bold, but they were not grayed out. For what
you are talking about, I have 5 user created "Inboxes" with mail
successfully diverted to them, with 5 separate rules obviously. I have one
(1) rule that says:

For all messages
Highlight them with color, (Black), and Stop processing more rules.

The rules that divert messages also have Stop processing more rules
checked. Both actions work fine.

Tested it before posting
Here's why
<qp>
A From header can be of two forms:

1) From: Name <e-mail address>
2) From: e-mail address

When Manually applied, the rule does NOT check the e-mail address in
form #1 within the < >.

It will match the e-mail address in form #2. And it will match if
checking for Name.
<qp>

To further elaborate if the rule applies to pop3 incoming messages it will function using Name or the email address in the < >,
thus if one has any need to apply the rule manually at a later time, then 'Name' should be the default choice especially since one
can not control the form of the From header (1) or (2)..

And compliments to Michael Santovec for making this clear numerous times..

I just tested it your way with my POP3 account. Using the display name
/does/ work as you say. I never thought of doing it that way for the
simple reason of what you posted.

<QP>
In most cases you can find the name in the message properties. Look for
From:
e.g. From: Joseph <>
Use Joseph for the rule.
</QP>

I have 3 entirely different people that e-mail me often and use the exact
same display name. In my case it is Tom. Making the rule using the display
name would move messages from all three recipients named Tom when I might
want to only move one of them.
