I've recently bought a JVC D63 Camcorder and have upgraded my pc to XP so
that I can start to edit my own movies etc, but I cannot get any of the
editing software to find the camcorder or to show the video. When I plug the
camcorder in with the usb I get the prompt about new hardware and then I have
to keep flipping between the driver disc that came with the camera and the
windows xp home edition upgarde disc and it finally tells me that the
hardware is installed successfully... only for the pc to keep telling me it's
finding new hardware (the same camera) and keeps prompting me to keep trying
to install the driver/software until I give up and cancel and it then tells
me there's a problem and that it was unsucessful!! arrggh - please please
help I'm going MAD! PS - I'm not totally techie but pretty savvy.

This post is in the wrong place really, but what the hey, I'd say the first
port of call for you is JVCs website to check for any software\driver
updates. Whilst there you also might to investigate any FAQ\Forums\Tech
Support provided by JVC.

Also, you say you're running XP Home, but have you updated yet using the
Windows Update website? Is it Service Pack 2 with the other 8-10 post SP2
updates installed? Have you installed any MS driver updates (again from the
Windows Update website)?

Further on again, how are you connecting the Camcorder to the PC? Presumably
by a Firewire connector? Sometimes the Corders have USB as well for
extracting still pictures recorded to the tape OR to a flash memory stick.
Therefore do you have your drivers correctly installed for USB and\or
Firewire? Have a look in Device Manager, right click My Computer and select
Manage, visit Device Manager and see what Yellow exclamation marks you have
if any.

Also your XP installation sounds a little odd. Although I'm not familiar
with XP Home (I only use Pro) one would assume that like with Pro during
installation all the necessary setup files are copied to the Hard Drive
making swapping with a driver CD and a Windows XP CD unecessary. You may want
to have a look at this. It's the same principle with the days of Win 95 and
Win 98 where we used to copy the CAB files from the CD to
C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS, then edit the registry to tell Windows where the
install files were.
