Hello

I have put back the Windows NT Backup program in Vista so that i
should backup, not just restore and I think I have tested it on a
external USB drive. Now I try to do a backup using the NT Backu
program to another USB drive. It quits after a couple seconds with th
following error in the log

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:Catastrophi
Failure.

The external backup drive is a Seagate FreeAgent Pro USB drive and i
contained some software from Seagate and Memeo which I have uninstalle
from Vista
What can I do to allow NT Backup to successfully backup to the Seagat
FreeAgent Pro external USB drive? Do I need to re-format this drive

Thanks
Jordan Kri

NT Backup is not designed for an operating system of which it was not aware
existed when NT Backup was introduced.

Use Windows Backup which is designed for Vista.

I don't think Windows Backup will back up *all* my data including
registry settings, hidden files etc. I need a program that will.

Open Google

Type: Vista Backup
or Vista Backup Solutions

Take your pick. Easy to see what's out there

I use the Windows NT Backup program in Vista Home Premium. In order to do
so, you must:
Disable volume shadow copy under "advanced backup options". If this option
is disabled, some files open or in use during the backup may be skipped. For
my purposes, it works fine.

The key is "For my purposes, it works fine". It can be made to sort of work.
I wouldn't trust my data to it. If something goes wrong there is no fallback
as you are in an unsupported position. There are lots of good backup
programs that are free or inexpensive.

Hi Ed Y,

When I tried to disable the volume shadow copy option under "advanced
backup options" it was grayed out.
