Can't get pass the logon screen

After entering my password, I click Login (or press Enter). Vista then
displays the "welcome" text, blinks, displays "please wait..." and then
finally goes back to the regular logon screen. So I'm not able to get into
my computer at all. Any idea what the problem could be and how I can fix it??
