I can't get the status bar to appear in my file view explorer wind

When I open a file view window in Explorer, there is no status bar. How do I
get the status bar to appear. I have to open an internet window, go to the
address bar and type something like "c:\" to get the folder to appear
correctly. This is bogus. I didn't have this problem before.
