I have to at least have IE 5 installed. Well I know I have IE 7 installed.
Here is the web address for the afforementioned site:

http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...&&thankspage=5

I'm running XP with the latest service pack I assume.

Any help is appreciated

Windows Update page says "Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates
from our site."

I have exactly the same problem. I have reinstalled IE 7.0 with no
resolution. Windows Automatic Update still works. I just can't get to the
Windows Update website. It thinks I have an unsupported browser.

The question here is how does the Windows Update website look at browsers.
It doesn't use Java because I found a Java test site that recognizes my
browser as IE 7.0. Here's that link:
http://myweb.cableone.net/4schmidts/browser_info.html

I have an incident open with Microsoft support. I will post when I get a
resolution.

So here's how I solved this problem. In my case I believe I had some sort of
IE add-on malware that wasn't detected by McAfe but affected Google by
showing random suspect sites instead of the most relevant ones in searches.
It affected my ability to use Myspace, and the MS update problem discussed
here. I went back to the oldest restore point I could get back to. Then the
Google and Myspace problem went away and I was also able to perform MS
update. Luckily I was able to return to a restore point that was before I
picked up the malware. Hopefully this helps.
