I have a brand new Toshiba laptop with SP1. I went to Windows Update and
downloaded all available hotfixes, but I can't get it to download SP2. When I
run update now, it goes through the "searching for updates" routine and tells
me that there are no further critical updates to install, but sys info tell
me that I still have SP1. AU is turned on. When I look at "add &remove
programs" there are about a half dozen hot fixes already present which say
"Windows Hotfix (SP2) qXXXXXX"-- as if some of the more recent hotfixes are
labelled as part of SP2. Is this confusing the update search? Should I delete
these hotfixes and try Windows Update again? I have successfully installed
SP2 on two of my other machines.

I see a response from Torgeir Bakken to a post yesterday about trying the
network version in a similar situation. Will give it a try.

So I downloaded the "network" version of XP and loaded it successfully on the
single laptop that couldn't find the update. Other than that it's a 250+ MB
file and took 25 minutes to download with a cable modem, it works just fine.
Thanks Torgen.
