I can't get wmp to auto open avi files?

I 've changed the avi files to open with wmp and i have also se
associate file type to wmp in default programes. Still wmp will not ope
avi's when i double click on them nothing happens not even an error cod
appears? i have to drag and drop the avi files to get wmp to play them
This may seem like a minor inconvenience but it's still a
inconvenience, this only applies to avi files for some reason

WMP was the default player for AVIs. Did you install some other player that
took over the association for that file type? If so look for an option in
the other player to disable its association with AVIs.

I only have powerdvd 8 as another player now, iv'e cheked the options i
powerdvd & there isn't any for file association. I've also change
programe & file default settings in windows to wmp

Is there anything in Power DVD under "Player", "Advanced...", "File
Association"?

So there is, but all file associations are un checked there already
maybe i have some broken reg link

I experienced this after just installing the latest version of DivX. Guess
the problem was I didn't restart the system, 'cause WMP came into its senses
after doing just that. Never happened before when just uprading and not
restarting. It may be some mangled codec only, check them out. Just my
2cents.

I installed divx7 not long back myself come to think of it. Maybe it's
done somthing in my reg then.

Maybe. I haven't had need of them so can't vouch how well they work but
there are some file association repair scripts at the link below that might
