can't install 5840 - please help

i'm trying to install 32-bit vista build 5840 as an upgrade to build 5744.
when i run the installer from with my current vista installation, it rejects
my product key with a message of "windows installer has encountered an error
and needs to be restarted." i figured this would happen since my product
key is a beta key and 5840 needs a RTM key. but, my intentions were to push
through the installation without entering a product key and then do the file
switch work around that will allow me to activate using my rc2 license. my
problem is this: when i press next without entering a product key, the
installer asks me "Do you want to enter your product key now?" and has a
blurb about possibly having to reinstall later if i don't. i click "no".
instead of continuing to throught the install, it takes me back to the
product key entry. how do i continue with the installation without a
product key?

I had this problem also. When mounting the iso from winxp too install from
there i wanted to leave the key blank and then choose the premium version
but nothing happend when i clicked no. It just stayed on that screen without
doing anything. So i had too burn the iso onto disk and boot from it. It
worked this way.

Also the rc1 keys are not compatable with the 5840 build. Didnt think there
was rc2 keys as the keys that worked with rc1 also worked with rc2 builds.

Hello,

You cannot use the keys on 5840 that you used on RC2. They changed the
generation hash. Also, please don't ask how to install illegally downloaded
software.

There is *nothing illegal* about installing software that is Beta Mr.
Ziegmann as has been posted numerous times. I realize that there is a
"psuedo elete" feeling that some people feel and a superiority that is just
as phony if they have builds other people don't and I've had every build
since July.

MSFT releases Beta software as a pure sales tool always and has in Vista,
and it has public Beta builds. Using the ones that are not public has not a
scintilla of illegal behavior associated with it except in the minds of some
anatuer cop or attorney wanna bes who can't seem to find any citations of
code section or case law to butress their wild and crazy and completely
incorrect assertions like yours here.

You cannot find one single code section or case law in the US that supports
your amatuerish label of "illegal" and you do the law a shameful disservice
in mislabelling Betas via torrents or anywhere else as "illegal." They may
not be where you get them, but that does not make using them "illegal."

Where in the world did you get that idea? Lol show us the caselaw and code
sections. Inquiring minds can't wait to see them. But we aren't holding our
breath for years.

its not illegally downloaded...its pre-release, you can pirate something
that isn't being sold.

But its copy righted material.

The beta versions are even worse, read the About Windows window.

Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. The Windows
Vista(TM) operating system and its user interface are protected by trademark
and "other pending or existing intellectual property rights in the United
states and other countries."

That build was not even released to technical testers.

you guys need to get over yourselves. you can screw off with you high and
mighty bull sh**. i already found a fixed torrent that will let me install
without a key. i can then perform the work-around and i will then have the
same build that you a**holes are so busy trying to police.

It's public material designed primarily as a sales tool. Show us
copywright law that covers Beta Vista (not some self serving MSFT EULA).
Again you will not find any law in regards to piracy and Beta software. It
is not sold and shipping/media production costs do not qualify as sales.
