Hi,

Iam having a problem installing the following security updates in Vista
64bit sp1.

KB952069
KB956802
KB958623
KB958624

I have tried a number of times and in different ways and each time the
update changes are reversed after stage 3 of the update install.

I have tried installing each update individually via windows update and
manually by downloading each update from Microsoft and running separately.

I tried doing a clean boot and installing via windows update but the same
problem

In the windows update log it does seem to say that the update aren't
applicable to my system but windows update keeps telling me to install them.

I sent a support email to Microsoft and got a reply today suggesting I look
here and in the Knowledge database which I have already tried but I thought I
would write a actually post and see if there are any other suggestions to get
these updates installed.

Thanks in advance

Is this a sudden, new problem?

Did you install Vista SP1 manually or via Windows Update?

What errors are associated with the install failures in WindowsUpdate.log?

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999).

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

Hi,

Yes this is a new problem, I have only ever had a problem with windows
update not installing a update when it has been a problem with the update
which microsoft had to reissue prior to sp1.

SP1 was installed via windows update on 18Mar08

The errors from the log that may be related are

0x80071A90 - ERROR_TRANSACTIONAL_CONFLICT

If this wasn't a sudden, new problem, I'd suspect that you had a beta or RC
build of Vista SP1 installed.

The error's one of several cited in the following KB article which in turn
points to "interference" caused by third-party security applications (e.g.,
anti-virus; firewall; anti-spyware):

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows
Update or Microsoft Update to install updates:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941

KB836941 notwithstanding, the problem may be due to a hijackware infection.

I'd open a free support incident if I were you.

further update

I have been able to install all the updates except KB958624 manually.

I have done virus scans as well as running hijackthis and nothing seems to
wrong or out of place in this regard.

I have read that some other users have problems with installing KB958624 as
well, is this a known problem ?

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus application and/or your
anti-spyware application(s) (other than Defender) and/or your third-party
firewall (and then enabling the Windows Firewall) before attempting to
install the update?

Have you posted your HijackThis log to an appropriate forum for review by an
expert in such matter?

I have the same issue on Vista SP1 (x86) - unable to install KB958624.
In the beginning I had 2 KB (KB958624 and KB956802). KB956802 got solved by
disable Etrust (antivirus).

KB958624 not solved. Windows firewall enabled. Defender and Etrust turned off.
