Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (i.e., all NIS components/add-ons including the
firewall; a-squared; and Spybot Tea Timer) and/or any third-party firewall
(e.g., ZA) before attempting to install the update(s).

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from
Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no-charge for
support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call,
clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the
update's KB number (e.g., KB931678).

In other countries, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default...r=securityhome > "No-Charge
Support...for virus and other security-related" issues in right-hand menu
for localized contact information.

PA Bear,

I am experiencing the same issue as Bill. No matter how hard I try or the
tactics I mploy, I am unable to get the UPDATE to work. I even re-installed
XP-SP2. No dice.

I've opened a Microsoft support incident request. I'll post the response and
results. By the way, relevant to this problem, in order to make this reply I
had allow this window to open as a pop-up via clicking on the information bar
- the same information bar I don't get when I try to run Windows Update.

This FIX worked and I'm back on with updates.

Fred

>>>

Start with ensuring that the system's time is *correct*.
Then try deleting the contents of the Software Distribution folder after
first stopping the Automatic Updates service.
[ The consequence of deleting the contents of that folder is that the
History of updating will not appear on WU/MU ]

Go to Start > Run > type in ( or copy&paste the below into the Open: field )

net stop wuauserv

Click OK
Navigate to WINDOWS\Software Distribution
Delete the contents of that folder

Go back to Start > Run > type in

net start wuauserv

Click OK
Revisit WU/MU to see if the scan progresses now
