Can't install Activesync 4.x

I have a problem installing Activesync 4.x on my PC (Windows XP Pro
SP2 with all the latest updates installed).

When the installation starts, it goes through the initial phase
configuring the installer, but then it just pops up a dialog box
saying:

>Setup not complete.
>
>The wizard was interrupted before Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1
>could be completely installed
>
>You system has not been modified. To complete installation
>at another time, please run setup again.

I have tried to install from several different admin users, including
the local administrator. I've tried both the Activesync CD that was
supplied with my device (version 4.0 Norwegian) and version 4.1
downloaded from Microsoft (versions 4.1 English and Norwegian).

I've previously installed ActiveSync 3.7 on the PC, and have no
problems reinstalling and uninstalling it even now. I've also checked
the registry and confirmed that there are no traces left of the 3.7
installation when installing 4.x.

Any suggestions?

Anders

Hi Anders,

Can you send me the %temp%\activesync.log & %windir%\setupapi.log files you
get immediately after the failed install attempt?

Also, do you have any antivirus or anti-spamware programs running?

Thanks!

-Leah

Thanks for letting me know Marc. It does seem that multiple people are
running into this. We are still investigating. I'll keep you posted.

Thank for your answer. If you need my log file, let me know.

In my case, the installation stop in the CustomAction named
"CA_SET_LAUNCHONFINISH".
I've edited the msi file and disable this action in the CustomAction
Table. Then the installation process goes to the next step and stop at
the "CA_SET_INSTALLEDDIRNOSLASH" action. What I could see it that this 2
action use the NewBinary19 file.

Hope this help.

Cheers

Yes please. A log would be great. Can you please do the following:

Go to setup.exe (not the companion cd exe, but the one under the
Activesync/wwe directory). And at a command line, run:
setup.exe /v"/L*v \"c:\ASver.log""

You can send the log to (without the "online")

Thanks!

Hi,

I have the same problem regarding this issue with the german version of
ActiveSync 4.1.

Is there any new information regarding this issue?

Hi,

I still haven't a solution for the initial problem, but after installing
VisualStudio 2005 Professional and SQL Server 2005, I was able to install
ActiveSync 4.1

Hi,

due to the complexity of the installation of Visual Studio and SQL Server
2005, I don't know, which file was responsible for my setup problems.
During the setup, the windows installer and the .Net framework were updated.
