I can't install any downloaded updates.

I have 17 updates waiting to be installed and they keep failing. Does anyone
have any idea why? I have windows XP pro and norton. Thanks, Kathy

I have been unable to install security update for Windows (KB951376) and
Cumulative IE7 security update. I also believe some other updates that
showed as successful downloads, but could not install, are still sitting in
limbo in my machine somewhere even though they are not listed in my "History."

My problems started after a "Repair Install" using my XP-P disk and doing
the SP3 download/install successfully.

fish4615-Kathy, I've got the same problem as everyone else it seems CHECK TO
MAKE SURE YOUR MICROSOFTWORKS 8.0 OR 9.0 IS WORKING. IF NOT YOU MAY HAVE TO
REINSTALL YOUR CD-ROM OF MICROSOFT WORKS.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

I've had exactly the same problem after repair to XP and tried the solution
at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144. It didn't work as 'net' and
'stop' were not recognised at the command prompt. I have now solved the
problem by downloading Dial-a-Fix 0.60.0.24 and running it with Fix Windows
Update checked. After restarting, all 23 downloaded updates and SP3
installed ok.

"fix" file...hope it helped the others also. Many thanks to you.
Max: SmartComputing tech suggested Dial A Fix but I could not get the
website to respond.
