Cant install "Background Intelligent Transfer"

what ever i try i just cant install the Background Intelligent Transfer
Service (BITS) 2,0 update,....ive used 2 whole days on the SHI*** windows
site to figure out the problem, but there is no help to find ANYWHERE..... te
error code i get is 0xD00E4104.

so what the hell am i supposed to do ?

Me too, I can't activate Background Intelligent Transfer Service. It needs
to be in the started state for Windows Update. I have BITS installed but it
won't start ... my error when trying to start is 1068. I run services.msc and
get to BITS but cant get it to go I run W2000

There may already be something wrong with BITS.

Try using bitsadmin to find out what it thinks its status is.
E.g. enter in a cmd window:

bitsadmin /util /version /verbose

Note: a newer version of bitsadmin was created for XPsp2.

The problem is in that there are two .dat files where they shouldn't be. I
don't know why that is causing the trouble but it was very annoying until I
came across the answer posted here:

With this error, BITS starts and immediately stops. BitsAdmin does not work
in this scenario under Vista.

I did however STUMBLE upon a fix working on another issue. I have not found
a KB article that describes the fix. I had to restart Vista using the safe
boot/Minimal option and then delete Qmgr*.dat files. Deleting the files
under a normal boot did not work. On my nect normal boot, Windows Update and
BITS functioned properly.

I have found that most of the BITS fixes a Windows XP/200x. That is to be
expected, BUT, pointing Vista users to those fixes has been an excercise in
frustration (as well as fixing the "fixes")."

It worked for me.

You would have much better luck tracking your
posts if you used a real newsreader and not the
Web based one.
