Hello!
When trying to install critical updates with Windows Update (windows XP with
SP2) I always receive the same message: Installation failed (with no mention
to the type of error). This happens with all available updates! The only way
to install the updates is manually. I also have the Automatic Update turned
on but the installation never occurs… The icon on the bottom-right just keeps
appearing and disappearing without finishing the installation.
Many thanks
Nuno Martins

I had the same problem, and was due to a proxy server issue. At a command
prompt, just type:
proxycfg -u

After that, the updates started working with no problem!

I have the same problem. This happens with all available updates!. I think
that i cancelled the process during an Update and after that it doesn´t work
anymore.

I did what you tell us, but i´ve still the same problem.

Any idea?

Many thanks !

I also had this problem too. But I notice that I got this after I installed
Norton anti-virus. Do you guy have that installed? Because when I re-ghost my
system to the image without the Anti-virus, the auto update and windows
update are working fine...

Carlos I have the same situation. All updates fail to install. I click on
the failed link and gives me an error code 80200010. I also cancelled the
auto process and since then it doesn't work. Please let me know if you
figure it out.

I have Mcafee VirusScan, but this is the computer I use at work and all my
colleagues have the same anti-virus installed and this problem only happens
to me…

try:
1. stopping the automatic updates service
2. renaming the c:\windows\windowsupdate.log file.
3. restarting the automatic updates service

Hi !.

I use Panda Internet Security. I´ve uninstalled it , and everthing works
fine. There is a hotfix (hfp90504s3) in the Panda Support Web to solve this
Problem too.
