Can't install DirectX 9.0c on SBS 2003

I have just set up a new installation of SBS 2003 and after running the
Connect to the Internet task, I performed the windows updates. All was well
until I installed DirectX 9.0c. The initial download worked fine and started
the DirectX installation wizard, which downloaded DirectX 9.0c OK. However,
as the wizard started to perform the installation (searching for previously
installed components) it froze - well more did nothing. There is no further
processor activity or disk activity. I have waited twice for around half an
hour and nothing. After waiting I resorted to ending the DirectX task. Any
advise please?

I have found the cause of this problem. On SBS 2003 the hardware acceleration
is set to basic. The hardware acceleration needs to be set to full to allow
the DirectX installation program to run.

The hardware acceleration can be found by going to Start - Control Panel -
Display - Settings - Advanced - Troubleshoot.
