Can't install Explorer 6.0

I have Windows ME. I updated to Explorer 6.0 when I got some other software.
This morning I reinstalled Windows ME because I couldn't get WORD to work
and I couldn't think of anything else to do. Now I no longer have Explorer
6.0. I downloaded the install from the Update Website. It runs but says at
the end that it was unsuccessful. I asks me to close all programs and try
again. I haven't started any programs. So I hit ctrl alt del and it tells
me that Explorer is running.
I'm stuck.

There is a differnce between Windows 'Explore' shown in Ctrl-Alt-Del and
Internet Explorer 6 Browser program.
Question is what do really have as an Operating System now.
Could you have re-installed it over the existing one that has difficulties?

Sounds like you need to do a 'clean install' and reload all your programs.
