cant install msxml.msi

I have been having a lot of difficulty trying to install software to use a
digital camera (the Olympus Master package). At first I got the following:
ERROR 1935 microsoft msxml2, publickey token=6bd6b9abf345378f,
version=4.20.9818.0, type= 'win 32' processorarchitector e='x86' HRESULT
0x80070002.
I contacted microsoft who gave me details of how to remove msmlx 4 service
pack 1 and msmlx 4. I followed these instructions, tried to install msxml.msi
but now get the following :
an error occured during the installation of assembly component
{303994BA-6487-AFID-7AF6088EEBDB} HRESULT 0X080070002
I am also unable to instal the Hotfix for msxml 4.0 service pack 2 KB832414
I would be very grateful of any advice or help people migh tbe able to give
