can't install .net framework 1.0 service pack 3 or framework 1.1 sp 1

Installation Failure

Error Code: E0434F4D for both 1.0 sp3 and 1.1 sp1 downloads

I tried the "free support email" option from microsoft but all that gives me
is an error message. So I guess I will ask for help here. It first r


It first tries to install 1.0 sp 3 and initializes then gives a error
message SL4C.tmp, application has generated an exception that could not be
handled, Process id=0xd8(216), thread id=0xff8(4088). Then it tries to
install 1.1 sp1 and gives the same error message but with process
id=0xa0(160),threadid-0x5cc(1484). Apparently I have no "jit debugger"
whatever that means. The last few lines of my windowsupdate.log file
follow. By the way if you are reading this and don't have an answer but DO
know how to email this question to microsoft since I can't get their online
email link to work, feel free to post that information too. One last bit of
info, perhaps unrelated, one of my programs keeps giving me the run-time
error '429': activex component unable to create object error.

also--not sure if this matters but I don't seem to have a "WUtemp" folder.
I tried everything listed at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...Driver)%20item
except for the part about the WUTEMP folder.

Your previous log shows that you are now using WUV5
so these WUV4 troubleshooting tips may not apply.

Have you tried installing the update manually?
If so and your problem is with the install your issue is not directly related
to WU (regardless of its version). Then you might get better assistance
from a newsgroup which specialized in the product being updated.

Ditto, but the interesting bit is that the download notice says it contains 0
Kb and will take 0 Secs. By the way, this is the (Deutsch) version if it
makes a difference
