Well, you haven't given any details as to why your installation is failing so can only
give a general response -

You cannot install an Office 2003 service pack
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884298

How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the Office Update Web
site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498

<snip> .................................... Hello jj and others,

If the service pack has failed to install because the source was required,
this typically means that some Office files have been corrupted or deleted.
In order to restore these files, you will need your Office 2003 CD or network
installation source.

You can fix the problem by following the steps given in this article:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/or...402361033.aspx

Use the steps under the section titled "Enabling the local installation
source". This will replace certain Office program files with fresh copies
from the CD, and should enable you to successfully install Service Pack 3.
You may also be able to successfully install Service Pack 3 by inserting your
Office 2003 CD into the CD-ROM drive before starting SP3 installation.

The reasons underlying the need for source files are highly complex and
technical. In short, Office needs to reference certain files during
installation of the service pack. If those file are missing or corrupt,
installation fails.

Let us know if you continue to have problems after following these steps.

Thanks,

David

Recently, we installed KB938827 to our application servers (two Windows 2000
SP4 servers). We use these servers as an installation point for our Office
2003 application. Since installing this patch, we can install office 2003 on
workstations, but when we attempt to perform office updates from the
microsoft web site, we get an error (You need the administrative version...)
on the Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) download. Other updates (Outlook
2003 Junk Email) work fine.

Additionally, on a workstation that already has Office 2003 installed, we
can use the web site to perform the service pack update.

1. Attempted to download and update with local admin account from MS web
site – unsuccessful

2. Attempted to download and update with domain admin account from MS web
site – unsuccessful

3. Attempted to download and update with helpdesk account from MS web site
– unsuccessful

4. Attempted to download and update with user account from MS web site –
unsuccessful

5. Attempted to download and update with a machine that had office
installed prior to updates, using user account and was able to install

6. Downloaded administrative service pack installation file and was able to
install SP3

Is there something in this Update that precludes us from installing SP3 for
Office?
