can't install programs

I am now getting install errors since updating to SP2. The Service
Module (AppMgmt) gives an error when I try to start it (from
Services.msc)so I can install programs. It says error 126: the specified
module cannot be found. I'm using XP home, and everything I find on
Microsoft's website seems to refer to Windows 2000 or Windows Servers.
Anyone know how I can fix this problem. I tried to find a down loadable
file from windows with the same name, but came up empty!
