Can't install SP2, over and over

I can't lick this one. 3 PC's in the home, and the other two accepted
SP2 just fine. All have XP Home. What is different on this one? Only
one userid on the machine and of course it is an administrator.

Countless persons are complaining about this problem since at least
November 6, most with exactly this symptom, but it's not permissions. So
sad so many people have reported this problem, but permissions does not
seem to be their problem, myself included.

So sad, all the MVP's and other help respondents all give the same
answer. Why is it that so many people have "permissions" problem on the
same key?

I have seen only a few that are not the same key, or it's not reported
at all.

I sure would like some other ideas so I can install SP2 on this last
machine.

You did not give the symptom.
Stating "it's not permissions" does not tell the symptom.
The necessary details you left out will contribute to fewer possible
solutions.

Yes it was permissions...
I thought it wasn't permissions because I fixed it and it failed
again... and again... and again.

I soon discovered it is many keys, and I don't know how to find them
all. except one at a time. Some of the keys are missing children, and
trying to open or delete the folder gives error message indicating it's
not really there. These keys are related to ADOX, ActiveX and adodb.
There is some bad registry stuff, I think because I did a Recover on an
SP2 system which "wiped out" the updates, and reinstalling them has
caused some registry confusion.
