Colin,
I'm sorry that you are encountering this failure. I have read through your log. Would you mind also posting the installation log? You should find it here: On Windows XP 1. Click Start 2. Click Run 3. Type: notepad %windir%\kb836009.log 4. Select all with <Ctrl>+<A> 5. Copy with <Ctrl>+<C> 6. Reply to this posting 7. Write the line: logs below: <Enter> 8. Just below this line, paste the copied log entries by typing: <Ctrl>+<V> 9. Post back and I'll be happy to take a look. Thanks Pat,
I have followed the instructuions below, but I get an error from notepad saying that it can't find the file (c:\windows\kb836009), and would I like to create it. (I have checked the spelling of the filename). I may have confused the situation by attempting to repair the .NET framework 1.1 as described in file:///C:/WINDOWS/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v1.1.4322/1033/repairRedist.htm This repair attempt did not fix the problem. There are a number of log files in C:\windows of the form kbDDDDDD.log, where D is a digit, but I don't know which of them might be relevent - they all seem to predate the recent installation attempts.
