I assume by the "Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com" comment at the bottom
of your post, that you are using Vista. Others will help you with the error
codes and installing the failed updates, but I wanted to briefly comment on
Windows Defender (WD). First of course you want your Windows Firewall (WF)
turned on if you don't have a third-party firewall to protect you. If you
encounter any problems with WF blocking something that needs to be allowed,
you can make entries in WF's Exceptions List which in Vista you can get to
via Control Panel: - go to Security and click on "Allow a Program through
Windows Firewall".
Regarding WD, I've found that there are better (and free) antispywares if WD
causes problems. SuperAntispyware (SAS) is one such free A.S. that can be
used in place of WD. On my wife's new Vista computer, WD interfered with
her antivirus (CA Antivirus Plus) and caused it to report erroneous
information to the Windows Security Center, that it was "turned off" when it
really was turned on. SAS does not cause such problems, has a very light
footprint in memory, and works well with most other AntiVirus solutions. So
if WD works OK on your computer and doesn't cause any conflicts, keep using
it; otherwise you can easily disable the WD Service and get a free
substitute like SAS. For a modest fee, you can also upgrade to SAS Pro and
have realtime protection plus many other neat features.
Please note I do not work for and am not affiliated with the author of SAS
of of any other A.S. or A.V. vendor. I do hope others of the 'pros' here in
the newsgroup will drop by shortly to help you with the specific error
codes. I just read your post and wanted to comment regarding possible
issues involving WD which I myself have had. Good Luck with the rest of it.
