I have tried to install these updates several times, with and without the
firewall turned on and have not been able to get them to work.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Has anyone solved how to overcome this problem?

Hi DBS,

I am not computer literate AT ALL-but, maybe I can help. I have Vista Home
Premium sp2. As you read the other posts, you will see that a lot of people
have this probelm, I had other updates besides the ones you mention. I have 2
possible hints I can give you. 1st, I removed any updates I had (thank you
again "nowurtalkin"), and even though there were 4 updates that did not
install, it showed only on MS Office 2007 for the removal, dated 10/16/09.
So I uninstalled that....I then I restored my system to a previous date
before all this started, I went back to 10/04/09, even thought this update
problem started for me on Sat 10/16. It said if I restored system it would
also get rid of any recent updates. I then rebooted. First, I saw nothing,
all seemed well, then the update warning came on and said I now have 7
updates. So be I checked what they were. It showed the 4 that didn't
install, plus 3 more. But before I installed again there was a link that got
me to MS Support and I poked around a bit and saw another MS web site that
was updated yesterday about problems w/updates and possible "attacks". So the
2nd hint is if you don't want to restore your system, maybe just go this web
site, and it will help, The web site is:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms09-054.mspx

Scroll down while you read, and see which system fits yours. So it looked
like they were aware of the problem. Maybe this will help. The restore of
system, may not have had anything to do w/it, not sure, but since I removed
w/it all the previous updates, and then when prompted to reinstall,
everything seem fine. (Thank you Lord). Now I did also intstall a couple of
the recommended updates too, so you may get prompted to install those too. I
have my settings at Automatically to install important updates, so don't know
why this did not happen.

So I hope this helps. And sorry this is so long. TracyLee

I had the same problem since last tuesday with updates, KB973709, KB972581 and
KB974234. I finally got them to install today.
I had a optional update Office Live Add-in 1.4, after I included it in the
upgrades,
it loaded the add-in 1.4 first and popped up an office license agreement,
after I accepted it, all four updates installed.

I believe Microsoft wanted the license agreement first, before it installed
the other updates.
Let me know if this works

I couldn't install KB974810, KB972581, KB973709, KB972363 and KB974234.
After I included the optional update office live Add-in 1.4 as you mentioned,
and the installation became successful. I couldn't agree more it has much
to do with the license agreement.

I worked! Thank you.

An optional update neds to be installed to get critical updates. I had 11
criticals that were a nogo till I did this.

I can't believe people are still installing all pre-checked Windows Live
Essentials applications, even those they don't want or need (e.g., Outlook
Connector and, by default, Office Live Add-in).
