JCD: FYI, maybe you should hold off a day or so on that update. After
installing this windows update KB 892130 (Windows Genuine advantage
validation tool), I ran a spyware scan with the program I use, CounterSpy. It
then revealed that this update was "spyware". And if you put it in quaranteen
or remove it, you can no longer do a windows update, because Microsoft said
it is to validate that you have a registered copy of Windows and not a "boot
legged" copy which you would not be entitled to windows updates.
I told microsoft about it and also dropped counterspy an email. So at this
point, Microsoft is saying it's not spyware and a spyware scan says it is. I
guess we will have to wait to hear from either Microsoft or Counterspy or
whatever spy program one uses to see if this is safe to keep on our PC. But,
maybe you should hold off a day or two before trying to download this as the
issue of "spyware" may be resolved. And, I know you wouldn't have a boot
legged copy of Windows XP pro, so I would maybe wait and let the companies
fix and sort this out. Just a suggestion.
