can't install wireless router

Set-up wizard in Vista detects my router but can't configure.
Manual configuration just turns the IP address of the router into a web
address in Explorer. Huh??
This router (USRobotics 802.11 Turbo) works for my husbands laptop. Right
now I am plugged in and basically have 2 desktops! This wasn't the plan!

You're trying to configure the router or just trying to use the router to
get access to your local network and internet with your Vista box?
Generally, that's how one configures a router manually... through an HTTP
interface. What do you mean by "...have 2 desktops?"

By 2 desktops I meant that I have to plug my new laptop in via ethernet next
to my desktop computer because I cannot get the wireless connection to work
with WindowsVista. When I go through the step by step process it sees my
router and a very strong signal. It detects the hardware but cannot configure
automatically. When I go through the manual steps, it actually opens an IE
window with the address being my router's IP address. (It even includes my
bookmarks. ) My router doesn't have a USB port to try the flash method. I
have been at this since Sunday but was sidetracked by an e-mail issue which
was resolved through this forum yesterday.

Have you looked at the US Robotics web site to see if you could find any
answers there? Have you posted this in the Vista.networking_sharing ng?

To walk you through the manual steps to verify the configuration for your
wireless nic is probably a task better done in the above ng to benefit
others that might be looking for the same type of answer... and if you look
in that ng... search it, actually, you might find the processes already
detailed there.

You can also look in Vista's Help & Support.... type "wireless" in the
search box.

thanks. I had to reset the router, apply an update and was then able to go
wireless.
so I'm good to go now.
