I hate this Windows live messenger. I can't invite my friends to view my cam.
I am ready to just uninstall Window live messenger and go back to Skype and
Yahoo. This is not worth the headache. Anyone have any suggestions? The cam
is just one of many issues I am having since the "mandatory" update. If it's
not resolve soon I am dumping it.

Greetings,

What happens when you try?

If it's just that you can't find the option, you'll find it by clicking on your webcam icon
next to your display picture in the conversation window. Alternatively you can press the Alt
key on the keyboard, choose the Actions menu, Video, and then "Show my webcam".

If the option is grayed out, see this entry on my blog:

Jonathan,

I am also having issues with not being able to send the invitation to view
web cam. After sending the invite, I can see it in my chat window but the
recipient cant see the invite. It eventually times out and says the recipient
canceled the invite... which is untrue.

This, and not being able to share pictures has recently started to happen
along with contact display pictures not updating. Or as I've also seen...
Contact display pictures updated on my laptop (running Vista Home), but still
after 3 days have not updated on my desktop (running XP, SP2), but still no
Webcam or photo sharing.

I can safely say that on Monday the 21st, all things were working perfectly
in Live Messenger, then by Wednesday the 23rd, all of these issues just
started happening. Looks like perhaps Ladypearl and I are seeing the same
things.

A friend in South America is not having these issues with other friends in
South America... only between us when we chat... Web cam share and picture
share are available, but don't actually perform as they should, and contact
info is not updating. Could it be related to a versioning, or server issue
with Microsoft? We are both running build 14.0.8089.726 of Live Messenger

There is no answer I can find on the web as to why things stopped working
properly. Chat still works, but all video and sharing activities seem to have
gone bye bye.

I don't have any necessary windows updates that are needed, I didn't install
any new software... Live Messenger just started acting up all on it's own.

Yahoo Messenger of course is working like a champ, so this is for sure a
Live Messenger issue.

I am having the same issues as Brett, and they began at around the same time frame. From what I can see, anyone from at least the United States cannot stream using their webcams (or picture sharing) to anyone from at least Central America, South America, and the Caribbeans. I have tried streaming to people from Venezuela, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, to no avail. I can send the request, they just cannot see it to accept. They, however, can webcam stream just fine to me.

I'm having the exact same problem...when I send my contact a web cam invite, he doesn't see it even though it appears on my window and vice versa..has anyone found a solution for this yet? It's getting really frustrating.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else. My contacts can't see the webcam invite when I send it. I can't share photos either although I can send files the old way, with the progress bar. Please help!

Im having the same problem, it started about 3 days ago, Im in southern Spain. So far I have done a system restore to a few days before the event, I have rebooted router and reinstalled MSGR twice to no avail, Im also on XP, I am unable to send file invites as they dont show up on friends msgr window, and I dont receive invites for files or webcams unless its "Video Call" which has a terrible quality...

This temporary fix worked for me, not sure if it will help anyone else, but it's worth a shot. The problem only started after I upgraded to 9.0, so I uninstalled it, restarted my computer, installed WL 8.5, and everything is running smoothly now. I can send/receive web cam requests and actually SEE them on my screen and my chat partner can too. Maybe the problem is exclusive to WLM 9.0? I remember 8.1 had a problem similar to this one too.
