Dear Community,

i hoope to get some useful hint on how to solve my problem.

Up to now, i've had problems with the following programs:
- ICQ (After Bootup the program doesn't show...but the process is still
active)
- Azureus
- Half-Life 2 based games (CS:S, DOD:S, HL2-Modifications)

Problem description:
Azureus:
While running or quitting the programm it doesn't react. -> right click ->
doesnt wait for the program!
-->> The GUI dissapears, but the process is still running and can't be quit.
Even c:\taskkill /IM azureus.exe /F shows that the process was terminated
sucessfully, but its still running.

It the same with the HL2-based games...just that the sceens is still covered
in the game window, so i can't use my computer after that...a reset is needed
after that.

I hope you can help me with this problem...it's really anoying.

Im using Windows Vista Business 32Bit with the latest drivers/updates.

sincerely yours
Brataq

Make sure you have at least Standard Administrator priviledges.

Right click on the process in task manager and choose "Kill Process Tree".
That will usually work when "kill process" fails to do as expected.

I'm sorry, but i tried that too. Nothing happened...the process is still
listed in the Task Manager. I can't start a new process (like icq) until the
old is somehow terminated.

Sorry, can't help you. Personally, I would dump a misbehaving program for
one that does as is expected.

I have the same problem, but with Firefox. Sometimes when I try and start up
the program, the window wont appear, but the process will show in Task
Manager. No matter what I do it wont close, and sometimes gives me a message
saying "Can't terminate process. Access denied." [something like that]. This
happens around half the time I try and open firefox.
I'm running Vista with all the proper drivers and everything. And the
firefox I'm using is the latest, 2.0.8

Have the same problem with firefox. If i restart the computer to kill
the process, then reintstal firefox it becomes okay for a while, but
maybe few days or weeks later the problem reoccurs. Any ideas how to
fix this?

I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, and it fixed the problem for awhile.
But just the other day though I started having the problem again, so I'm
still at a lost of what to do.

To Mr. Richard Urban,

Are you suggesting to remove Vista? And if you don't know how to hel
don't suggest stupid things.

In my case the program that misbehaves also includes Internet Explorer
So should I switch to FireFox, Mr. Urban?

Nothing helps, nor admin rights, nor command line (taskkill), nor Kil
Process Tree, nor normal reboot or log off (it takes 10-20 minutes t
log off or shut down when this happens.) I have to use hard reboot powe
off.

Never had this problem in XP, everything worked fine.

So how to kill a process in Vista? Does anybody from Microsoft know?

I work in IT company and I am not the only one reporting this proble
in Vista.

Sincerely,
ih
