Can't log in with live messenger 8.1!!! (error 80072efd)

Hi there!
This morning I can't log in with live messenger 8.1 anymore... I get the
error code 80072efd... and checking connection settings I get an error
about some "host" file preventing messenger to work properly!
What is this host file?? Perhaps the files "host" and "host.msn" in
\System32\Drivers\etc??
What can I do?? I've already deactivated the firewall and reinstalled
live messenger, but nothing changed.
Please help.
I can log in via web messenger instead.

Yeah, I've got the same error coming up since yesterday. I can log in with
another hotmail email account on the same machine, but not with my current
email address. I've already tried uninstalling windows live messenger and
reinstalling it but it makes no difference. I guess that makes me think that
the error lies not on my side otherwise windows live messenger would not have
worked at all for the other account. Any idea about what I could do? Should I
just wait for microsoft to simply sort it out. Any help would be much
appreciated.
