Can't log in to Live Messenger - No error appears

I've been stuck with this issue for quite some time now. I try logging in to
my MSN account, it seemed to start connecting - the msn guys start twirling
around - and after 5-6 seconds in, it returns to the log-in screen - like
nothing ever happend. No error screen, no message, nothing.
I tried another account with the wrong password and it returned a"wrong
password" error. Internet is working fine. No firewall blockage.
Anyone? Help?

I started to log the log-in session, found this line in the log:
"[00:30:31.81] 0f5c Messenger:Zone_Contact_Platform_Errors
Contacts store failure, forcing Logoff."
please advice!

Greetings,

I assume this is on 2009? Beginning with 2009, Messenger makes use of a Windows Live
Contacts framework/executable which handles everything related to contacts against all the
Windows Live products. However as a starting point, it is installed or you would see a
different error to this.

Press the Windows key and then R to bring up the Run box, and put in the following:
%userprofile%\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows live contacts
then click OK

Are there folders listed here? Right-click somewhere in the explorer window (not one of the
folders) and choose Properties. Has there been any files created here (they'll be hidden by
default, but they'll show up in the properties)?

Finally, delete all the folders here (it's just a cache) and then attempt to sign in again.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately deleteing the live messenger contacs cache didn't help. after
deleting and a resign-in attempt I see two hashed-name folders appear in the
contacts folder and again - back to the login screen with no error msgs what
so ever.

I would really appriciate any further assistance.
if you would like me to include the entire log i would do it.

Im in the exact same boat... ive done absolutely everything i can find to do
about it and i still cannot log in. Like you said the little msn guys spin
around then just stop and it goes back to the log in screen with no error
message. This is the windows live essentials 2009 setup. Ive uninstalled and
reinstalled, Ive done registry fix's, I've done this nothing has worked thus
far and its really getting nerve wrecking.

It is a discussion group, or newsgroup, not a support group. Messenger support:
http://help.live.com/help.aspx?proje...m&market=en-us

If you are not presented with an email support form, but are instead redirected
to help.live.com for that service/product, in the page that opens from
http://help.live.com select any topic on the left hand side or search for a
question in the search box.
The results of your search or the clicked topic appears in the right hand frame,
along with a tiny link in the lower right hand corner – “Get more help.”
Click that tiny link and you will get to a page with a link “Contact support”
Click that link and you will be presented with the email support form to fill
out. Provide as much detail as possible and you should get a response from
support within 24 hours.
Help topics at http://help.live.com
Support for MSN or paid Hotmail Plus - http://support.msn.com

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed nitpicking my frustration. The fact is I have
presented supposedly a bug in the log-in process - but no one seemed to care.
Just the attitude you would expect from MS. At most you would be ignored - at
least there will be some wise-cracker who wouldn't add anything to the
solution and will only transfer you to the freaking useless Knowledge Base or
the "Pay us to unsuccessfully-try-to-solve-your-problem hotline that only
workes at any inconvinent time for you". I TRIED this forum cause I figured
they would figure out why.

Well good day to you all.

Omer, if someone can provide a solution to you or suggestion for what else you
can try, excellent. That's what the newsgroup is for. The fact is that you
encountered a problem, it may or may not be a bug. It may be something that
Messenger Support knows how to resolve. They may also be stymied. If that's the
case, please request that the problem be escalated.

I was not nitpicking your frustration, I'm sorry that you took it that way.
Support for Messenger via the email support form is free. There is no charge for
that support. I don't know what the cause of your problem is and have nothing to
suggest. For reference, I had a slightly similar problem with the previous
version on one PC some time back and I was never able to solve it personally. In
my case, when I signed in, Messenger simply closed with no error. It was a
non-critical problem for me as it wasn't my main machine, so I didn't contact
support. An updated build during the beta resolved my problem.
If you have indeed encountered a bug, contacting support is your best path to a
solution *and* for the issue to be logged and provided to Microsoft.

I found my problem, after hours of searching i hope its the same thing wrong
with yours at least its an easy fix. I have to open my task manager and end a
program called nSvcAppFlt.exe as far as i can tell its part of the
ActiveArmor Firewall and after i ended that it let me sign right in. Even
though the firewall is set to allow all messenger settings this particular
part of it just seems to have a problem with it. See if you have that on
yours.
