I go to tools, options, programs and tick the box to make it the default
browser, then apply and OK. Next time I open IE7 it is no longer the default.
Why?

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when
posting to this newsgroup.

One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change(s) from "sticking". These include
but are not limited to Ad-aware Pro's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, CounterSpy, Norton AntiVirus,
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, NOD32, many other anti-virus
applications, and Zone Alarm (Free, Pro, & Security Suite).

Firstly thanks for your input. I am using XP Pro + SP3. The only program in
your list that I have is Ad-aware but I dont use it for any background scans,
I open it only occasionally. Anyway, IE7 used to work with it before. I am
using BitDefender Internet security 2009, even if I turn that off it makes no
difference. I did once have firefox as the default browser but it is now
removed from the computer. I wonder if the registry still thinks it is the
default and so stopping IE7, just a thought. Anyway, if you have any other
ideas I would be most gratefull to hear them. Thank you

Firstly thank you for your input. I am using XP Pro + SP3. The only program
in your list that I have is Ad-aware, but that is not set to run in the
background and oly occasionally used. It was also on the computer before this
problem. I am using BitDefender internet security 2009. If I disable that it
doesn't help.IE7 has permission anyway. I did once have firefox as the
default browser, but it is now removed from the computer. I wonder if its
possible that there is something in the registry that still thinks it is the
default. Any more ideas I would appreciate you help. Thanks

1. [Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | ] Set Program Access and Defaults
| Configuration that's already checked | Browser: Select "Internet Explorer"
here.

1b. Now check your settings here: IE Tools | Internet Options | Programs |
Default web browser.

If no joy, see:

2a. http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx (ignore reference to OE)

2b. Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet

Thanks again. Making IE7 the default in Set Program Acess in Add/Remove progs
doesn't work iether. I checked out the link oehelp.com but its beyond my
capabilities. In file types I find URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol, click
advanced then edit, open, edit but nothing comes up for me to check. I guess I
will live with it for the time being.

Do you have another browser installed (e.g., Firefox; Chrome) that's
currently the default?
