Can't move folders from one folder to another

I've got some folders that I want to move - I click and drag, or choose Cut &
Paste, and Windows Vista says that I'm "moving" but the folders don't move
from the old location.

Please elaborate on the folders not moving.. are the folder and
contents copied to the new location and not removed from the old?
There are a lot of issues with Vista not fully moving directories -
almost randomly folders and files are left behind. As well - if you
are moving or deleting from a search result you may see files that do
not exist for quite a while before the indexing catches up with itself.

Thanks, TheClyde; the folders are not actually moving, but "copies" are being
created in the new location. And, yes, it seems random -- sometimes the
entire set of folders is properly moved, sometimes only some, sometimes none.
Have any tips to pass on?

Be patient. Double-check your work. Don't get frustrated, hard as it
might seem when you are dealing with files important to you.

If you are using the search and the files are showing up even though
you deleted them... first, refresh your search just to be sure. If
they are still there you can try rebuilding your index. I did once. By
the time I got around to the search again, it was retuirning files
properly. Eh, we will have to wait for the next flurry of activity
before I try anything again.

I have had less success when I move folder trees that contain images.
I have heard theories about the thumbnail creation process locking the
folder. I do notice that if I switched views to list or detail before
I leave the folder it seems to be more reliable, but that might be
coincidence. Also have noticed the problem happens more often if a
confirm replace dialog is shown.

Perhaps it would be a jolly idea for the transfer dialog to end with a
status screen saying 4 folders and 2 files were not moved. Or
something to that like - would remove a lot of doubt in my mind

Good luck!
