Can't open any program

Please help!
When I try to open any programe I am told "Only part of a ReadProcessMemory
or WriteProcessMemory request was completed." Nothing will open.
I have tried to run Windows update and to install Ad-aware to look for bugs
etc but these won't install or open. What can I do?
Any help gratefully received.

Try installing AdAware while in Safe Mode, and running it there - run your
AV from there also.
