Can't open .doc attachments

HI,

I am using Windows Live Mail. When I try to open .doc attachments directly
from the mail, it always gives a warning that there is no program associated
with it( although MS Word is associated with it)
I can only open the doc after first saving it and then opening it. Strange
and very irritating.
Pls help

Happens to me with jpgs.
I haven't tried to fix it yet since I don't get a lot of jpgs in the mail.
But I would be interested if there's a solution.

Windows Vista is very secure. That's why it makes you save the doc
before being able to open it. However, you can turn off "protected
mode" in security settings or double click bottom right of screen where
it reads "protected mode". However, keep in mind when protected mode is
turned off, your PC is more vulnerable to malware.

Sorry, I'm new to the forum. I did not notice the date. I was just
excited because I actually knew the answer to something. I'll keep a
