I would create an Ubuntu boot disc that runs that OS from the disc. If
you can use it, there is a software problem with Windows. If you can't
use it, you computer is suffereing from a hardware problem.
In any case it is handy to have an Ubuntu disc, because it allows you
immediate wireless web access if you are using a router for a
broadband connection.
