can't open System Restore

I don't know what messed up the computer, one of the device drivers, some
other updates, or the failed printer installation. One of those did it and
maybe caused the others. I can't install or uninstall anything now, when I
try to it takes hours or just doesn't open any window or anything else. I
tried to open System Restore and nothing happens, then when I try to open it
again it tells me that System Restore Wizard is already running. I looked on
the task manager and there isn't anything. What can I do?

Right at power on at startup, tap F8 Key until a list comes up which includes
Safe Mode. Use UP and DOWN arrows to get to it, hit ENTER.

Do your System Restore from within Safe Mode.
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

Leave it for about 10 min. Mine takes up to that long to run. I also get
the same message when I try to load it 2 or 3 more times.

I forgot to mention that it does the same thing in safe mode as well as that
restore mode or option that comes up at well when you hit F8

I left it for a long time in safe and normal mode, but nothing ever appears.
Could it possibly take longer? When you leave it for 10 minutes, does it do
absolutely nothing and then just appear? No process for it in the task
manager?
