Hello all, and thank you for any assistance.

Facts:
I have Windows Vista (SP1) and Microsoft Office XP Professional 2002 (SP3).
Everything is updated and current.

After I downloaded SP1 for Vista, I have been unable to open (by clicking on
the icon) of .doc-s. I have tried to right click and "open with"... When I
try to assign WINWORD.EXE to .doc applications, it is not accepted. BUT, if
I open MSWord, and use File>Open, then the .doc-s open. So, basically, I
cannot open .doc icons by clicking on them.

I have also tried to go to Control Panel and Default Programs>Associate
Files Types... When I try to open with WINWORD, nothing happens.

I have also tried to reinstall Office 2002 and update to SP3.

Please help. This is really annoying!

That was helpful! I see Word 2007 has huge problems too. Everything was
working fine until I downloaded SP1 for Vista.

I have Word 2007 and SP1 installed on this computer along with Adob
Acrobat Standard 8 and everything works just like it did before SP1 wa
installed. You cannot expect a program written for Windows 98/Window
2000 to continue working forever

Well, it's just that mindset that continues to gives corps. like Microsoft
the green light to tell us to download updates w/o warning us of their
detriments, and not having the proper solution.

My issue is not isolated, per a generic google search. Unfortunately, there
seems to be no real solution.

Office XP is seven years old and was designed for 98/ME, you cannot expect
this to run under vista!!
get open office ( Novell has a special free version which supports macros
and docx ) or buy Office 07.

bye
Olaf
