"Mail stops working" - really? Or just the paste isn't working? Did you
try both "right click - paste" (with your mouse), as well as Ctrl+V? Are
you sure you "copied" correctly? To copy you must "highlight" the text
(left click and hold the button, and "drag the mouse" across), and, while it
is still highlighted, you must put the mouse cursor on top of it, right
click - select "Paste". Or while highlighted you can Ctrl+C. (There are
other copy methods but these are most common). If you're not getting the
"copy" then obviously there would be nothing to "paste". Did you try copy /
paste into another document - other than an email - as a test that the copy
/ paste works in general?

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them cause problems with
Windows Mail over time.

When that happens, try pasting using some other program. Do that for
diagnostic purposes. I know that it won't solve the problem but it is
important to know if the problem is with Windows Mail. If you cannot paste
into another program then it is not a Windows Mail problem.

What happened, as i said, is that I copied something from works 9 an
tried to paste into windows mail to send, and it shut windows mail down
When I tried to paste something I wrote in and copied from clariswork
and open office (which my friend just told me about) into windows mail
it worked. So there is something going wrong between the microsof
programs.

I could reinstall windows mail, but I imagine I'd lose all the peopl
in my address book and would have to start over, and all the message
from the past. Meanwhile I guess I just stop using works 9. It would b
nice to know what is happening though. It ruined my day. Microsoft sur
puts out lousy programs. But I guess we all know that.

No, you can't reinstall Windows Mail. Since it is an integral part
of Vista, you'd have to reinstall Vista.
I suggest you try Windows Live Mail to see if it has the same problem
with pasting from Works. Microsoft has more or less abandoned
Windows Mail, so they won't expend any developer time to fix
its problems.

Unfortunately, you may NEED to reinstall Vista . . . . . . sounds like
something in the OS install is not playing nice with mail . . . . . .

You mentioned having Office as well ("which your friend just told you
about" - ???) - do you have Outlook included in your MS Office suite?
