Sounds like your PC has major corruption.
Perhaps it is time to reinstall Vista, or go for Windows 7.

I've never tried it, but there is supposed to be a repair-install
of Vista that preserves all your data:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88...all-vista.html

As a precaution, back up your data first.
If you want to back up all aspects of Windows Mail, including
account settings, rules, etc. use this free third party utility:

http://www.staticbackup.com/windows-mail-backup/
http://www.staticbackup.com/products.htm#swmbf

It does not transfer contacts, but you can easily copy and paste
the folder C:\Users\username\Contacts.

Open Office isn't owned by Sun, unless it happened
very recently.

'OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite'

Can you save the MS Word document to your hard drive
and then paste that file into Windows Mail?

Rather than jumping to reinstalling Vista, what anti-virus
do you use? You can uninstall that and then check to
see if it solves the problem. If it does, when you reinstall,
do a custom installation and uncheck email scanning.

Microsoft stopped development and fixes for Windows Mail in
July 2006. Since then all their support for a free email program
has been limited to Windows Live Mail. It's time to see the writing
on the wall...

Open Office is owned by Sun, unless it happened very recently. I read
somewhere that Sun sold it recently, but I can't find anything that
indicates that anyone other than Sun owns Open Office. If you go to the web
site that you referred to, it has the Sun logo at the lower left and in the
bottom middle it says that Star Office is a trademark of Sun. Also look at
the Wikipedia page; I see nothing saying that Open Office is owned by anyone
except Sun.

People can get extremely frustrated with problems if they are not methodical
in diagnosing problems. I said to paste into another application something
that does not work for Windows Mail. I did not say to copy from some other
application, I said to paste into another application. You are assuming that
Windows Mail is the problem but I don't see evidence that that is the case.

Windows Mail uses the same software for showing and editing messages as
Internet Explorer does (actually it is more accurate to say that Windows
Mail uses IE); there is a good chance that the problem exists in IE. So one
good test is to use an online email web site, such as the one provided by
your ISP, to create the same message you create using Windows Mail and
especially the part where you paste into the web site the same thing that
does not work for Windows Mail.
