Why are you even using WMP to play any multimedia file when there are
so many way better and FREE alternatives?

Try XnView, GOM Player and VLC.

The problem is CODEC related. WMP has a long history of not being up
to the task so why torture yourself?

GOM PLAYER. Give up on Win Media Player. GOM player is free, lightweight,
and plays dang near everything, Uses internal codecs so they won't screw up
the rest of your system.
Install it and during the setup wizard select the files to associate with.
You won't regret it.

What exactly happens when you try?

Why? does google not work on his computer any different than mine? I do not
have links to all my favorite products memorized, so I would open a browser,
type "gom player", and copy the link.... Why can't he do that ?

That's what wrong with the world today, you offer help and then get yelled
at for how you did it.
Personally I would be happy with a software recommendation and be more than
willing to do the research myself.
