Can't play PC games after downloading Windows update

Has anyone else had that problem? I have Windows XP home edition, someone
told me I needed to downloan windows update to keep my computer safe, so I
did, but now I can't play my PC games, even from the disk. I am trying to
play Warcraft 2, which I was able to play up to an hour ago.

Can anyone help me?
