I can't receive message, unless I start to chat with others. After a period
of idle, i can't receive message again, need to "active" the conversation
again.

this problem appears after i upgrade my hotmail into live hotmail ( and i
changed it back). i'm using msn messsage 8.1.0178 and windows xp media center
edition sp2.
recently, i've also tried to install windows media center rollup2 (KB900325)
but failed.

Can anyone help? i googled, someone had the same problem, and after a while
problem was automatically solved, but no hints at all.

webmessenger. on another account on another pc connected to internet through
same gateway it works. maybe on msn's server side? So annoying.

yep......just tried those tests too with same result, even on a Mac! Also
tried swapping out my firewall / router to discount that and shut down every
other device on the network....

looks like server side for definate...

I have the exact same issue.
I have an Apple Mac Powerbook G4, running MSN 6.0.2

Ive tested MSN, adium & mercury, but all act the same. You need to initiate
the conversation first. It first began Friday evening (11th May 2007).

Ive done multiple tests, and my account appears to be the one with the
problem, despite no updates or changes made... It must be server side. And
from what I understand, it will fix itself within the next few days or so.

As mentioned in previous posts the same has happened to me. I can't have
conversations with people 2 miles from me but I can with people 6000 miles
from me.

Exact same problem over here. For two days now, no one has been able to
talk to me unless I message them first.

Let's just hope that Microsoft, with all their infinite wisdom, are reading
these posts...

Its annoying that it even has to happen to Mac users as we dont even get
half the benefit than windows users do of the new Windows Live set-up!
