Hi
I am new to forums and have a rather annoying problem. When i try an
change the name of any folder, new or old, i get an error message tha
says "the file or folder does not exist" . i have tried every registr
fix, download, settings change that i can find, and nothing helps.
have tried the fix on the microsoft site as well, but to no avail. i
there is any ideas out there as to why the fixes that seem to be workin
for other people aren't working for me, they would be much appreciated
i am running vista business x 32 on a lenovo laptop. the operatin
system came preinstalled. i cannot recall any particular event that ma
have caused this, it seemed to happen very suddenly one afternoon
please help!!

Hello Adrianls

Have you already tried these links below

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/13...-vista-fix.htm

an

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69837-new-folder.htm

If you have, then you might see if running a "sfc /scannow" command ma
help

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66...fc-command.htm

As a test, you might also create a new administrator account to see i
you can rename file while logged in it instead

Hope this helps for now
Shaw

Hi Shawn.
thanx for the reply. i have tried those two fixes you suggested an
unfortunately they didn't work. i have just tried the system scan and i
came up with no errors at all. i also tried creating a new admin accoun
but had the same problem occuring on that account as well.
i'm starting to get the feeling that i may need to reinstall the os t
solve the problem.
Adrian

If this problem has not always been like this for long, then you may b
able to do a '*_System_Restore_*
(http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76...store-how.html) usin
a restore point dated before you had this problem to fix it

If this still does not help, then the only other option I know of is
reinstall. :

My problem was I couldn't delete a couple of files. It gave me the same
reason does not exist. After chatting with Dell support they couldn't figure
it out either so I reinstalled the OS and did a format before installing
Vista and that solved the problem. That's a time consuming task but it
works.
