I've got various .msu files which I'd like to install but each time I get an
error that says 'The update is not valid for your system', 'De update geldt
niet voor uw systeem' in dutch Vista x64ultimate. EN/NL versions don't matter.
Windows Update services are running in the background.

What MSU files?

Have you considered the possibility that these updates are "not valid for
your system"?

for instance one that fixes nvidia issues, memory issues... I have a bunch
which Windows Update doesn't install but which I would like to install
nevertheless reading what the msu fixes.

Well, the ones that I consider not valid for my system I have not tried.

out of the 100 or so I want to install, less then 5 install. How do I get to
install the rest of the msu's? I find an msu which is for a symptom my system
has yet once the msu goes doing something online I get the annoying "not
valid for your system" thing.

either starting an msu using wusa.exe or simply doubleclicking on it... same
result, "not valid for your system"

Then in that case the updates you are trying to apply are "not valid for your
system".

If that's not the case, then you'll need to contact MS.

Well, then perhaps there's a reason Windows Update didn't offer these
updates to your machine.

what might that reason be? other then 'not valid for your system', which
isn't correct for alot. I do have a 400 dollar Ultimate license.
