When I try to run the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) Security Patch
MS04-003 (32-bit) on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 machine, with MDAC 2.8 SP2
(checked version with Component Checker without mismatches) it gives the
following error:

An error occurred while setup was trying to verify the version of Microsoft
Data Access Components currently installed on the machine.
Either the version currently installed does not match the version of this
hotfix package, or setup was unable to determine the version currently
installed.

Is it not necessary to run the hotfix on MDAC2.8 SP2?

Nope, it's *not* necessary (and Windows Update doesn't offer you that
update, true?).

See http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS04-003.mspx
and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/231943

MS04-003 has been released before MDAC 2.8 SP2.

Bye,
Freudi

Thanks. I thought it wasn't necessary, but I was trying that to solve
another problem. I receive a "The procedure entry point lstrcatI could not
be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL" error when I try to run a
VB6 program.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889114 may help in those cases.

The windows2003 pc with the problem only has one version of msdart.dll on
it. I tried replacing it but it just revert back to the version that it had.
The getIUMS error that is referred to in the above article seems to be a
different problem than the lstrcatI entry point error.
