For some unknown reason, whenever I click on either the Express or Custom
search link, it begins to do the search ... and very quickly quits giving me
the following message....................

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem:

This just began today. Have not had any previous problems as late as a
couple of days ago.

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you see the
0x80244001 error
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=14&ln=en

This error may occur if the MSXML3.dll is missing or not properly registered.

Register MSXML3.dll
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type regsvr32 MSXML3.dll.
Click OK.

This seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks

But I'm one of those folks that like to know "why"? What caused this? I am
not one to delete dll files; and was merely 'surfing' when the problem began
to be noticed. Nothing has been detected from virus program; ad aware nor
SpyBot.

Any ideas?

Glad it's working okay and fixed so easily.
The file was there, it wasn't deleted.
All you did was re-registered the dll.

If you have any problems in the future with WU, view the log file to see if there is
an error code.

For V5 , open Internet Explorer and either type or copy and then paste this into the
Address bar:

%windir%\windowsupdate.log
