I purchased a new pc this week with windows 7 live mail. It doesnt have
outlook or outlook express. I have set up to receive my btinternet emails but
windows live mail doesnt send them giving me the error message "the server
does not support a SSL connection" and an error code of 0x800ccc7d. I
desperately need help to resolve this. Many thanks.

I also use Btinternet.

In WLM, go to Tools>Accounts. Highlight your BT account>Properties>Advanced
Un-tick 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

Hope this helps.

Please copy / paste the entire error message and provide your ISP and email
address - only the part after the "@" - for most accurate assistance.

You need to use the settings specified by your provider:
http://www.btopenworld.com/faqs/manual_email_setup

(Note, no SSL or advanced ports.)

Just recapping and adding a bit about servers, this is what to do

In Windows Mail
click Tools
click Accounts
highlight the account you are trying to use
click Advanced
untick SSL - apply
click srvers
tick My server requires authentication - apply

it worked for me

That would fail for me. All of those settings are dependent on the
requirements of the Email Service Provider. The best advice is to check with
your provider. They should know the required settings for their servers.

If I did that in Windows Mail(your suggestion), Windows Live Mail, or Outlook(my preferred Pop3 email client) then nothing would
work for me.

SSL and Authentication settings are unique to each account provider.

Fyi.. I suspect your mention of Windows Mail was in error since this was posted to the Windows Live Mail newsgroup.
If not the Windows Mail group can be accessed using one of the below methods

Hi all,
Let me add my complaint also. Just got a new machine and am forced to use
windows live mail. It appeared to grab all the settings correctly. I can
receive mail fine, but cannot send mail at all. I get this error message....
The connection to the server has failed.

Subject 'Re: Social Committee'
Server: 'smtp.comcast.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10013

Same message every time.... what do I do?

Comcast recommends
SMTP: smtp.comcast.net Port: 587 SSL: No with SMTP Authentication

In Outlook Express/Vista Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail SMTP
Authentication is specified at Tools (ALT+T), Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Servers, Outgoing Mail Server, My Server Requires
Authentication. Specifying SMTP port 587 is on the Advanced tab
