another issue with window mail: when I attempt to send, a popup tells me
that the message will not have "community features" (=??) until I sign in.
do I want to sign in now? when I click 'yes', I am denied:: "an error
occurred while attempting to display the windows live id sign-in dialog"

the message is nevertheless posted (obviously)

This is a known problem. They introduced this new Communities feature and
its broken out the door.

You can still access the newsgoup without the "communities" feature.
Personally I don't see the point in it anyway.

Is this a feature, then, of Vista Ultimate? I've got Vista Home Premium
32-bit and I can't sign in, either. Is there something I have to do in the
settings?

The Communities feature is flaky, don't use it.
If you don't want it to bother you, you can turn it off here:
Tools > Options > General tab > uncheck "Use newsgroups
message rating features."

Its working intermittently. If you sign on and it gives you the message box
with the "Help:about" error, then close that message box and then in the
sign on screen behind it, click on the red X in the upper right to close it
and you'll be signed in.
