Can't Sign in to Microsoft Communities

I'm running Vista Home Premium on my Acer desktop with plenty of drive
space, 2 gigs of RAM and Windows updates current. Everying works fine except
I cannot seem to sign into any Microsoft Newsgroup in order to create a new
post. I type up the post, like this one, but when I try to send it, Windows
Mail stops responding so I have to shut down Mail. Then when I come back to
the Newsgroup I'm somehow signed in! Alternately, if I do a Reply Group, I
can't send my reply without the system hanging and then I have to go out of
and come back to Mail to be signed in. Strange thing is sometimes if I click
on the Sign in feature it works, but most of the time it just ignores me.
Any help would be appreciated...........Paul C.

Turn it off, it is quirky at best.

Tools menu>options>General tab, remove the checkmark from 'use newsgroup
rating feature'>apply>ok

Thanks, Steve. It's now off.

What about my question of why my Windows Mail hangs up when I try to
initiate a new post using File|New|News Message? Will turning off the Sign
in feature take care of this issue too?....Paul C.

Why do you have to use that method to create a new newsgroup post?

Don't you have the top toolbar with 'New Post' button?

Right click up top of the screen>select toolbar.

This sort of problem can be caused by 3rd party applications scanning mail
and news, such as Anti Virus.

Try removing the Communities account, close & reopen WM and add it back, use
the server name
msnews.microsoft.com

Tools>accounts>select Communities account>remove.

You should not post to newsgroups with your valid email address, when you
rebuild the account use as your posting address.

HTH?
